Class Description

Musical Theater (MT) (grades 1-12)  Musical Theater classes, at BCDTA Co, are performance-based classes that act as weekly rehearsals by reviewing exciting new choreography that students will perform in our upcoming staged musical production.  The style of dance may vary from show to show and class to class.  Dances may take on a classic jazz, lyrical jazz, Broadway jazz, modern jazz or hip hop flare.  NOTE:  Any student can participate in an MT class.  All MT students become part of the theater company and will perform their dances, as a group, in the upcoming production.  All MT students are expected to attend weekly rehearsal classes & the 4 mandatory weekend rehearsals(see "dates to remember" for rehearsal dates).

*Scene Study (SS)  This class is only for those who audition and receive a lead speaking or non-speaking role in the upcoming production.  This class meets weekly for student-performers to review the script.  (The size of the role determines how many SS classes they will need to attend)

Ballet Theater  combines 30 minutes of ballet technique with 30 minutes of ballet performance choreography.  (students perform 1 ballet piece in the upcoming musical production)

Pre-Ballet/MT  (4 & 5 yr)  This class combines a 30 minute introductory ballet class with 30 minutes of musical theater jazz..  This is a non-show class

Acting & Voice (A/V) combines 30 minutes of age appropriate vocal technique including a a vocal warm up & breathing exercises.  Students explore a variety of musical genres to include:  Broadway, Pop, Disney, Classical etc (and have the opportunity to sing solo or in a group.) All A/V students will perform 1 vocal piece, as a group, in the upcoming production.  Keyboard & Karaoke are used to accompany)   The Acting portion includes:  improvisation, scene study, dramatic role play, commercials, on-camera activities & audition technique.   (select groups may have an opportunity to audition for small roles in the upcoming staged production) (auditioning does not guarantee being cast or receiving a role in the upcoming production)
