About the Directors
Owner/Artistic
Director Kristina Tuxhorn took
ownership of BC Discoveries Dance & Theater Arts Company in July 2009.
She graduated from Penn State University where she receive her BA in
Integrated Arts with a focus on Dance and Theater. While at Penn State,
Kristina was a member of the dance company and acted as a student teacher
for 3 years in dance and theater. She has studied both locally, and as
far as the renowned Bolshoi Ballet in Russia. Kristina is a former member
of the Philadelphia Ballet and has performed in and choreographed
countless ballets and musical theater productions to include: Grease, Bye Bye Birdie,
Cats, Cirque de Broadway, A Winterland Wish, The Colors of Oz,
Extra Extra, The Velveteen Rabbit, Let the Sunshine, Journey to Broadway,
Two Worlds, The Princess of Octavia and Joseph & The Technicolored Dream
Coat and The Nutcracker, Short & Suite. Tuxhorn also worked
for the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, The prestigious Governors
School in NJ, and the National High School Dance Festival based out of
Miami. In addition to teaching for BC Discoveries, Kristina is the
director and founder of St. Joe's Dance and Theatre Company (an after
school program for elementary age children).
Director of Programs &
Marketing/Script Writer: Beth Crawford created and
operated BC Discoveries Dance & Theater Arts Company from September 2002
to July 2009. Currently she handles program development and
marketing for BCDTA. Crawford received her BS in Education and Marketing
from Rider University in 1984. In 1993,
she started Theme Time Music & Movement Program. This pre-school
program ran successfully for seven years. In
1998, Crawford started B.C. Discoveries Model & Talent Management.
Crawford directed countless full length productions and musical revues.
Additionally, her talents include script writing for which BCDTA students
have had the privilege of performing in. Original works include: Cirque de Broadway, A Winterland Wish, Journey to
Broadway, The Princess of Octavia and In the Neighborhood.

About B.C. Discoveries Theater Arts Company
B.C. Discoveries Dance & Theater Arts Company
(BCDTA) is a high energy, performance based program where students receive
quality instruction as well as performance opportunities. Whether
an individual wishes to sing, dance or act, BCDTA Co. has
it all. BCDTA is a unique program where students, parents and faculty are like
family.
Student-performers choose from a variety of art disciplines and aspire to their individual
goals. Ultimately a diverse group of talent levels
(beginning-advanced) join together to perform, as one, in our fully staged
spring musical theater production.
New
Turning Out Performance Group
(TOPC)
TOPC was created in June of 2010.
This exciting company currently has 50+ members and was designed to
provide additional performance opportunities and build even greater
camaraderie among BCDTA students. Performance venues, for the
2010-11 season include: Hershey Park, Trenton Thunder Stadium,
Disney World and more. Testimonials:

The
Dance Theater Program
Dance Theater (DT)
is a
high energy Jazz based dance class. Any student K-12 can enroll in
their appropriate class and will perform in our December in-house showcase
and Spring Musical Production. (no audition necessary)
During the fall semester, the focus is on the technical development of
each dancer. During the
Winter-Spring session, students learn and rehearse exciting choreography
to be performed in the spring musical production. Choreographic styles can
vary to include: classic jazz, Broadway jazz, hip hop, lyrical &/or
modern Jazz. (weekly attendance is
crucial)
Since all MT students
participate in the production, they are required to attend the mandatory
weekend rehearsals
leading up to the performance, Dates and Times TBA)
Ballet
BCDTA offers
quality ballet training from our youngest ballerinas in Creative Movement
through
Ballet/Pointe 7.
Ballet Theater combines 30 minutes of ballet technique with 30 minutes of
ballet performance choreography. Participants in this program
benefit from strengthening their technique as well as increasing their
performance opportunities. Students perform in BCDTA's production of
The Nutcracker, Short & Suite in December.
Acting/Voice
This exciting class combines 30 minutes of
acting technique with 30 minutes of vocal instruction.
(breathing techniques, improvisation, dramatic exercises, commercials and on-camera
activities, scenes, monologues, vocal warm-up, group & solo on-stage and classroom vocal
opportunities. Students perform in the December showcase and in the
spring musical production.
BCDTA Jr. & Sr. Company
Sr. Company: The Sr. Dance
Company consists of members who display a strong interest and commitment
to dance and the arts. (ability levels
range from intermediate to advanced.) Individuals must audition and
be accepted into the Dance Co. Sr. company students range in age
from 13-18 yr. Students learn varying styles of performance choreography.
Requirements: Musical Theater Jazz, Ballet and the Dance Company
Class.
Jr. Company:
The Jr. Dance Company consists of members who display a strong interest
and commitment to dance and the arts. (ability levels
range from intermediate to advanced.) Individuals must audition and
be accepted. Students in the Jr. Company range in age from 9-13 yr.
Students learn varying styles of performance choreography.
Requirements: Students may chose a
Dance Focus or Theater Arts Focus.
Dance Focus Requirements: Musical Theater, Ballet and Dance
Co. Class. Theater Arts Focus Requirements: Musical
Theater Jazz, Acting/Voice, Dance Co. Class.
The
staff at BCDTA is made up of certified teachers & professionals who all
enjoy working with children and excel in their art. This compatible,
creative team collaborates weekly, to ensure quality instruction and
programs.
